HOW IT ALL STARTED

MOSSHOUND DESIGNS

est.2015

I met my husband in 2015 and he inspired me to dive deep into my love of textiles by introducing me to his family sheep farm, where we now gather the wool my art is made from. I relished in studying the history of fiber arts, its historic applications, and modern techniques.

Since opening MHD, I have dedicated myself to creating nature inspired, timeless, quality art that is symbolic of my connection with nature. It is my hope, that through my work, you may feel the warm, welcoming, soothing vibrations of the earth and all it has to offer us.

OUR SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

Not only do we focus on creating timeless, long-lasting products with zero waste, we also work hard to source sustainable fibers and work solely with other like-minded businesses in the United States.

  • I start with fibers directly off of our sheep farm in northern Pennsylvania, then curate fibers from local hand spinners, dyers + other types of textile farm animals such as sheep, goats & alpacas.

  • I hand dye all of the wool using the safest, highest quality MHD signature blend of natural dyes.

  • The fibers used in our wall hangings are purchased from a US based company that takes leftover waste from the garment industry and turns it in to beautifully recycled, top quality yarn and rope.

  • Here at MHD, we LOVE our senior rescue dogs! We adopt the elderly/hospice dogs directly out of the rescue and spoil them for the rest of their lives, no matter how long that may be.

I also make monthly donations to shelters all over the United States.

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN

Here’s What Others Are Saying…

“Nicole created a custom wall hanging for our home and we couldn’t be happier. I saw a design on her website that “spoke” to me and wanted to translate it into a coastal-inspired design. I sent her a mood board of my vision and then my husband and I met with Nicole at her studio to look at colors together. When our place in line came, she started creating and sent us progress photos. We were pleased and only had minor revisions to suit our taste. Nicole made our vision a reality while being patient, professional, and accommodating. I would recommend MossHound Designs to friends, family, and anyone reading this. Nicole is a true talent!”

— KRISTINA

“We’ve never hung something up so fast in our house! It just arrived and is even more stunning in person- if that’s possible. It was very easy to customize this piece with the seller. We are so pleased!”

— RYAN

“If I could give Nicole additional stars, I would! First of all the the custom piece was exactly what we hoped for and even exceeded our expectations. Just beautiful! Second, Nicole was responsive and communicative - a pleasure to work with.”

OWNER & ARTIST

Nicole Hemmerly

We all have places and people that shape the person we become, places and people that are the first things that pop into our minds when we think of childhood and how we grew into who we are.

For Nicole, that place is the family farm in her native northern Pennsylvania and that person is her father, a kindhearted hunter and fisherman with a deep respect for and love of nature. His love of the outdoors shaped and fostered her own and that dedication to respecting and bettering the earth instilled in her the values that Mosshound Designs was founded upon.

Mosshound Designs studio is located in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, a place where all facets of Nicole’s life intermingle to create a haven unique to her. From the piles of driftwood (found and hand-selected by her and her husband) that will become the foundation of Nicole’s hanging pieces to the plants, rocks, and art within each room to the beautiful, vast array of fibers and textiles lining the walls, it’s clear that her studio is truly her sanctuary.
